The zone diet was developed by Dr. Barry Sears, a well known researcher who has formulated a specific diet for weight loss as the basis for perfect living.
The food intake always results in the increase in the insulin level. If the insulin level is kept under control, the general health is maintained well without giving any scope for ailments. The easy way to keep the insulin level the same without much variation is achieved by eating at regular intervals, at least five times a day (three full meals with two snacks in between). This is the basis for the zone diet. Starving depletes the insulin level in the blood stream. When the next meal is consumed the quantity of food intake becomes more to refurbish the insulin level. This results in the insulin level suddenly increasing beyond the normal level which can become the main cause of many diseases. The zone diet is based on a "40:30:30" ratio of calories obtained daily from carbohydrates, proteins and fats, respectively. The Zone diet is considered a low carb diet despite the fact that it is not as restrictive in total carb intake as some of the other low-carb diets. According to the zone diet's official website, a typical meal is a moderation of: • Low-fat protein • Low glycemic-load carbs (mostly fruits and vegetables) • Monounsaturated fats
