Low Glycemic Foods Low-glycemic foods are based on the glycemic index, which is a method used to rank carbohydrates. The glycemic index was introduced by Dr. David Jenkins and was used to help diabetics regulate their blood sugar; this ranking-system ranks carbohydrates on the rate at which they increase blood sugar levels. Obviously low glycemic foods (raise your blood sugar slowly) are given a low rank, while the others (cause a rapid increase in blood-sugar levels) are given a higher rank.A list of low-glycemic foods can include some veggies such as broccoli, carrots, peppers, corn, lettuce, and cabbage. Some fruits such as berries, grapefruit, apples, oranges, raisins, bananas, kiwi and Pineapple are also considered low-glycemic foods. Kidney beans, crackers, rice, barley, whole wheat bread, popcorn, chips and peanuts can also be added to the list. Poor health conditions are usually caused by unhealthy eating habits and the lack of adequate exercise. Eating unhealthy foods, or maintaining a diet comprised of mostly high-glycemic foods, may result in heart conditions caused by high blood pressure, high sugar levels, and high cholesterol. However, eating low-glycemic foods can help you strengthen your immune system and speed up your metabolism as well, which helps your body to lose weight naturally.
