Low Carb Diet Plan

Low carb diet plan menus can vary, but they all limit the amounts of carbohydrates that can be consumed. A low carb diet plan is one that restricts the carbohydrates you can have each day to around twenty or twenty five grams.

The typical daily food intake, based on twelve hundred calories each day, will usually contain around one hundred and fifty grams of carbs. Lowering this amount to twenty five grams or less can have a big impact.

How It Works

A low carb diet plan works on simple principles. Carbohydrates are broken down by your body into glucose. When you have too much glucose this causes your body to produce more insulin. Insulin is what helps your body store excess energy as fat, so more insulin means more fat storage.

A low carb diet plan can prevent weight gain and promote weigh loss by tightly controlling the glucose available and the insulin needed. This causes ketosis in your body, where you are forced to burn off stored fat instead of glucose.

Is It Effective?

Using a low carb diet plan can help you shed weight quickly, especially in areas that are hard to slim down. Your body flushes out fat instead of relying on the foods you eat for energy, and this is very effective for weight loss.

Make sure to drink plenty of water and other fluids while on a low carb diet plan. Exercise will also help you speed up the results you see by increasing the calories you burn.

What To Eat In A Low Carb Diet

The list of foods that you can enjoy can include some low carb vegetables and fruits such as broccoli, asparagus, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach, green beans, artichokes, cauliflower, cabbage, Grapefruit, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, and cantaloupe. Other low carb choices are cheeses (cheddar, parmesan, swiss, provolone and ricotta), chicken, lobster, veal, tuna, salmon, turkey, eggs, bacon and sardines. Athletes and fitness enthusiasts can also consider some low carb protein supplements (powders, bars).

Safety Issues

Some doctors and other medical professionals have expressed concern that a low carb diet plan can be dangerous. The reasoning is that a low carb diet plan causes ketosis, and this can turn into ketoacidosis and damage your kidneys and other internal organs. This happens when large amounts of ketones are released, and this can cause the acid levels of your blood to increase.

Although opinions regarding low carb diets vary greatly throughout the medical and nutritional science communities, major medical and nutritional associations have generally opposed this nutritional regimen. In recent years, however, some of these same organizations have gradually begun to relax their opposition to the point that some have even voiced cautious support for low carb diets. In most cases, a low carb diet plan can be effective and encourage weight loss, and is considered medically safe (for healthy individuals) when done correctly
